Bookworm Adventures

Dude... Bookworm Adventures kicks.

Sure, it sounds like it was made for 6-year-olds... and it probably was.  That's why I put the "dude" in there.  Then I said that it "kicks."  I had to regain some masculinity.

PopCap Games makes some simple, but silly-mad-addictive games that you tend to play nonstop until your family intervenes.  Remember Bejeweled?  That's their game where you shoot balls into similarly colored balls to make them disappear.  You were really good at, too, until your friend sat down to watch - then you started to suck.  You'd say something like, "You should've seen me earlier.  Before you got here.  It was like I made the game." But then your friend, who never played before, sat down and beat your high score.  So you uninstalled it.

Bookworm was another one of those games.  Well... it still is one.   I just don't play it anymore.  Things still exist, even after I abandon them.  Right, son?

Anywho - Bookworm is a game where you try to make the biggest words you can with your set of Scrabbley letter-tiles before the few letters that happen to be on fire reach the bottom and burn the cute bookworm alive.

The longer the word is, the more points you get.  You don't get bonus points if the words are inappropriate... but it is more fulfilling.  Plus - it makes for a great screenshot.

In Bookworm Adventures, you spell words with Scrabbley tiles, just like in Bookworm 1.  The only difference is - instead of spelling words to save a worm's life, you spell them... to kill. Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will ALSO break your bones (Depending on their length.  They could just least leave a mean bruise.).

The bigger the word, the faster you slay. When you successfully spell out a word, you hear a victory chime, which confirms that it is, in fact, a word. You don't even have to know the definition, which is great for me.  Vocabulary one of those subjects that's only useful in school.  Like Calculus, or Physics, or knowledge.  I mean, every word you learn in school is just a synonym for the words you'll actually use on a daily basis.   Unless you're trying to meet a minimum wordcount, vocab is just brain-clutter.  And clutter collects dust.  And how are you supposed to dust your brain?  You could die!

My strategy involves clicking random letters until I hear a victory ding.  Well, it doesn't involve that... it IS that.  Oh, then I add an "s" for good measure, and let 'er rip.

As you traverse the Bookworm Adventures world, slaying goats, eagles and other evil creatures, you pick up little items that help you in your quest. The ‘Tablet of the Ages’ makes you inflict 50% more damage if you spell a color.  The 'Wolfbane Necklace' gives you bonuses for spelling a mammal.  I still haven't found ‘The Urban Dictionary,’ which gives bonus points for spelling words like ‘Mangina.'  I'll never stop looking.

In summary - Bookworm Adventures is a wonderful game for children and adults alike. Children will learn to click alternating consonants and vowels until they stumble upon a long confusing word they’ve never seen, and adults will take pride in spelling out hilarious words related to the genitalia. Genitalia itself is actually a pretty powerful one. Any game where you can kill a unicorn with ‘genitalia’ is a must-play.  My family is from Missisippi, after all.
